Dental Care for Children Helps 182 Kids in Haiti18-Jun-2012
This Memorial Day weekend, Dental Care for Children spent 4 days in the Haitian sun, setting up a dental clinic for children of the International Alliance for the Advancement of Children's (IAAC) orphanage in Les Cayes, Haiti. With a team of 8 volunteers & 2 USC dental students, we set up an 8 chair dental clinic & treated 182 kids - most of which had severe dental problems.
Many of the kids in the orphanage had lost their parents & families in the earthquakes. These kids may have very little and surely they needed our help, but their spirits were high. Believe it or not, most kids were actually excited to see a dentist - arriving hours early & beaming with excitement about the toothbrushes we gave them... not the usual reaction here in the states! The little boy to the right had a mouthful of cavities & decay but after 2 days of work, ended his visit with a big smile & lots of hugs.
We want to thank all of our wonderful supporters for making this possible! We'll be headed back to Haiti in August to an orphanage that's home to more than 600 kids. We can't wait to get back & help even more kids!
